I am currently a postdoctoral Researcher at the Databases and Information Systems group, University of Basel, working on the IMOTION project. I am one of the founders and developer of vitrivr, the open source video search engine. I have an academic background in content-based multimedia retrieval, a challenging research problem that combines computer vision, machine learning and big data.
Postdoctoral Researcher • 2014 - 2016
As part of the core team of project IMOTION, I contributed to motion and sketch-based retrieval in large video collections. I also worked on designing and computing semantic features from convolutional neural network classifiers.
I am one of the developers of vitrivr, which is an open source web-scale content based video search and browsing engine. vitrivr has been selected for the Google Summer of Code in 2016.
I participated in the development of competing systems in the 2011 - 2013 editions of TRECVID Semantic Indexing (with Eurecom), TRECVID Ad-hoc video search 2016 (IMOTION) and 2016, 2017 editions of the Video Browser Showdown (IMOTION)
